Archiving repositories
The web team has a growing number of repositories throughout different tribes. We often come across older repositories that are deprecated and no longer supported by the team. This post outlines some general steps to archive a repository properly.
Steps for archiving repository:
- Do a global search on Canonical’s GitHub, ensuring that the repository is not being used in other projects.
- Check that the project is part of the web team’s GitHub repository ownership.
- Reach out to the repository’s contributors, check if it is a deprecated project.
- Go ahead and archive the repository.
- Update the
Abandoned Y/N
field on GitHub repository ownership. - Reach out to a member on the Systems team, notify them about the archived repository to deprecate the project entirely.
